Imagine if your morning portion of porridge could not only feed you, but also feed a starving child in one of the poorest countries in the world.
For a porridge fan, World Porridge Day sounds like the best day in the world! And it is...but for reasons that go far beyond a holiday.
We are taking World Porridge Day 2020 as an opportunity to draw attention to the poverty and hunger that many children have to suffer from. Together with you, we would like to support the charity Mary's Meals, which aims to provide a good daily meal in an educational institution for children.
What is World Porridge Day?
World Porridge Day is an international event organised to raise funds for Mary's Meals. Mary's Meals is a charity based in Argyll, Scotland, that raises money to help hungry children in developing countries around the world. The main goal is to provide a daily meal at educational sites so that children can go to school without hunger and receive an education that could be their ticket out of a life of poverty. Mary's Meals operates in 19 countries and serves more than 1.6 million children every school day.
Why porridge?
After a delicious bowl of porridge for breakfast, we feel energised and strengthened for the day. Porridge provides us with important nutrients, keeps us full for a long time and is easy to prepare. A bowl of porridge in the morning can give these children the energy they need to get through a long walk to school and satisfy their hunger so they can concentrate in class and get a better education.
The goals of Mary's Meals
- Providing a daily meal in schools and educational institutions for children in the world's poorest communities.
- Helping people escape poverty and caring for orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children.
- Raising awareness in Germany, Great Britain and worldwide for poverty that exists due to a lack of education.
Facts & Figures
- Almost 328 million children live in extreme poverty.
- Every year 3.1 million children die from poor nutrition.
- Today there are 815 million people in the world who don't have enough to eat.
How can we help?
At 3Bears, we make it our mission to raise awareness of World Porridge Day and Mary's Meals and support their mission. And you can do that too.
In order to help children in famine, it is important to pay more attention to the issue. We can do this by engaging more with the topic and supporting the work of Mary's Meals, for example.
What do we do at 3Bears?
On October 10, 2020 we will celebrate World Porridge Day with lots of porridge enjoyment and a donation to Mary's Meals.
For every purchase on our online shop on World Porridge Day, October 10, 2020, we will donate 1 euro to Mary's Meals eV.
Order porridge and do something good.
